Rautakirja's bookshop chain, Suomalainen Kirjakauppa, will open Finland's first full-size bookshop to be devoted solely to paperbacks on September 10. The shop is the first in a planned small chain of paperback specialist outlets.
The new shop will carry around 1,000 titles, of which approximately half will be in Finnish, a third in English, and the rest in Swedish. The selection will be added to and updated regularly as new titles appear.
"Demand and supply in the paperbacks area is moving up in Finland, and publishers are clearly beginning to put more efforts into paperbacks, which have been somewhat neglected in Finland compared to other markets," says Raimo Kurri, Managing Director of Suomalainen Kirjakauppa.
"We have high hopes of our new chain of Reader's outlets."
Finland's leading bookshop
Suomalainen Kirjakauppa operates a chain of 58 of its own bookshops and four Yliopistokirjakauppa outlets, and three outlets in Estonia. Net sales in 2000 totalled FIM 637 million.
